Brooks Running Malaysia (BRM) had the pleasure Alvine Nathan – the Founder of Nathan Project Brooks Running Club, and Kannan Murugasan of Ultraman Malaysia to lead our running clinic on 10 May 2015. The running clinic was held as a build up towards Penang Bridge Half Marathon 2015, of which BRM is the official apparel sponsor for the event.
Quite a few important tips were shared at Botanical Gardens, Penang that morning. Approximately 100 people turned up to pick up some basic knowledge on what every runner should know, starting with proper warm up and stretching.
Besides the staples of endurance training, strength training should be done as well. Push-ups is one of the simplest and effective ways to do it. Got to get the posture right to count!
Core strength is the key to good running posture. Your core, i.e. abdominal strength, adds stability to your running style. With stability, comes running efficiency.
Long runs differ from short runs, be it during training or during races. It is important to pace yourself correctly for different distances, to avoid “hitting the wall” or finishing too easy.
Other things off the training track, such as nutrition, should not be neglected. Medical check-ups should be done as a preventive measure, before running a race or training vigorously for it.
